A lot of my visitors are surprised by seeing my atelier, somewhere in a new quarter in a small place. There is the experience of tranquility and silence.

I will take you with me on a journey in the Hinterland, where you, yourself have to seek for all that is coming.

Someone who saw my artwork suggested that I should have a look at the works of Mark Rothko. That’s when I really got in touch with abstract art. It was an eye-opener for me. It was a feast of recognition! In the meantime the afterimages left by Rothko are something of the past now, I do travel a different road, but still...

Rothko was there in the beginning; he showed me where to find tranquility and silence.

It was only recently that Henk Peeters (NUL-group= Dutch Zero Group) told me that my work reminded him of Tàpies work. That was the time I became familiar with the artist Tàpies. Although l feel more attracted to the art of Rothko, I do recognise the way I work in Tàpies. Although I do not use the material aspect in my work, but I do see a parallel between his way of thinking and mine. In my work, like in that of Tàpies I use very little; I am a lot more vulnerable though. Besides the fact that Tàpies is extremely talented, one can see that he carries a lot more luggage. Because of all the lessons he learned on the way, his work is so much more powerful than mine. That is what convinced me of the fact that I would not have been able to create what I do right now without all the things I have gone through in life.
